HUNTINGTON — After winning the battle of the big men, Marshall’s James Kelly will go basket-for-basket tonight against Old Dominion’s Trey Freeman.
The object for Kelly is to help his team win, not necessarily to replicate the 27-point, 23-rebound performance Thursday against Charlotte. But it’s the unavoidable sideshow — Kelly vs. the Monarchs’ Freeman for Conference USA’s Player of the Year award.
As the teams’ previous meeting showed, it’s all intertwined.
Kelly and the Herd won the first meeting 78-75 on Jan. 23 in Norfolk, Virginia, and the margin was easy to identify — Kelly’s 3-pointer with 4 seconds left.
