Middle Tennessee quarterback Brent Stockstill is out for the rest of the season with an injury, meaning Marshall will face a redshirt freshman in his first start.
The sophomore Stockstill broke his collarbone in two places Saturday during the Blue Raiders’ 45-25 loss to Texas-San Antonio. He had surgery Sunday, with plates and screws inserted.
The Blue Raiders (6-3, 3-2) travel to Joan C. Edwards Stadium for a Saturday night game against the Thundering Herd, with a 7 p.m. kickoff. The game airs on American Sports Network.
As father and coach Rick Stockstill described it Monday at his press conference in Murfreesboro, the quarterback got “hit and sort of pile-driven onto his right shoulder” on a sack early in the second quarter.
