Marshall's Tyler trying to follow in footsteps of past great linebackers

HUNTINGTON — He came to Marshall as a junior-college prospect who had several offers, but not an overwhelming list.

He started most of his junior season, wading slowly but surely into the major-college waters and starting 12 games. By season’s end, he stood as the team’s No. 2 tackler.

In his senior season, he turned into a beast, figuratively. With 123 tackles, 13 for loss and five sacks, he was named Conference USA’s defensive player of the year. The Thundering Herd won the league title in the process.

By now, Herd fans should recognize that we’re talking about Neville Hewitt, now entering his second season with the Miami Dolphins.
