Marshall's strangest games - No. 12: Herd stuns East Carolina in 2007

The 2007 season was a miserable one for Marshall football, probably the most excruciating since 1978-79. It went that way almost from the opening whistle of August camp.

I was covering the West Virginia Amateur golf tournament during the opening days of camp when I learned that Albert McClellan, the media’s pick for Conference USA defensive player of the year in 2006, and star center Doug Legursky injured knees in non-contact drills.

Legursky vowed to come back by the start of the season and he did, winning first-team All-Conference USA honors. The Herd also had NFL-caliber talent in safety C.
