Marshall's strangest games: Late rally vs. Memphis saved Herd in 2011

Rakeem Cato, a true freshman at the time, was Marshall’s lone available quarterback when the Herd visited Memphis on Nov. 17, 2011.

In 2005, when Marshall visited Memphis for the first time, there were 46,000 fans celebrating the final home game of DeAngelo Williams.

Six years later, the Thundering Herd arrived for a cold Thursday night game in mid-November, a brilliant idea of Fox Sports Net. Unlike the Williams days, the Tigers were 1-11 the previous season, and stumbled into this game with a 2-8 record.

There wasn’t 46,000 for this game. There wasn’t 4,600. Or half of 4,600.
