Marshall senior softball player Morgan Zerkle, already a member of the 2017 U.S. National Softball Team, added another accolade Wednesday, being named Conference USA Preseason Player of the Year.
That honor came from a vote of the conference’s coaches.
Last season, Zerkle finished second on the Thundering Herd batting .482, with 54 hits including two home runs, 28 runs scored and 28 stolen bases. The Milton native missed 22 games due to a mid-season injury, but still became the fastest player in Marshall history to record 200 career hits in just her 137th game.
Four Herd players total were honored.
