HUNTINGTON — As dominant as James Kelly is becoming, his coach is spurring him on to do more.
As Marshall’s big man — or as he has called himself, the “garbage man” — the 6-foot-8, 259-pound Kelly has begun to fulfill coach Dan D’Antoni’s preseason prophecies.
In the Thundering Herd’s last game, a 94-76 win over Western Kentucky, Kelly struck for 27 points, 11 rebounds and three steals. In MU’s two games at Las Vegas last month, he recovered from early foul trouble against Grand Canyon to score 17 second-half points.
The night before, he lit up Wyoming for 38 points and 13 rebounds.
