HUNTINGTON — It was a routine play off that Marshall staple, the pick-and-roll — Jon Elmore heads into the lane, sees James Kelly slip behind the defense and flips the ball rim-high for Kelly to dunk it.
Except this time, the Thundering Herd scored the go-ahead basket with 18 seconds left in overtime last weekend at Western Kentucky. It stood up as game-winner.
It was Elmore’s 98th assist of the season, a league-high 81st in Conference USA games and a career-high 10th of that game. With 24 points, Elmore recorded his first double-double.
And he enhanced his reputation as one of the league’s most dangerous point guards.
