Marshall men off the mark as UTEP trips Herd

HUNTINGTON — Certainly, Texas-El Paso did many things well in its 91-68 victory Saturday over Marshall.

But both sides agreed that the Thundering Herd saw its 12-game home winning streak snapped in large part by a rash of misses, many on open looks.

The Herd (13-9, 6-3 Conference USA) was victimized by the Miners’ guard play and the 25-point domination by 7-foot-1 Matt Willms. Going 3 for 25 from 3-point range didn’t help matters.

“Obviously, it wasn’t a great shooting night. We went 12 percent,” said Thundering Herd coach Dan D’Antoni. “All those guys [who] say we take too many 3s, you’ve got your ammo.
