DALLAS – For the first time in over two decades, Marshall Baseball was receiving votes in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers poll. The Herd has not been ranked nationally since the NCAA Tournament team and Southern Conference champion Herd of 1978 finished No. 17 in the nation.
Conference USA tied the Big 12 with three teams ranked this week — Florida Atlantic, Southern Miss and Louisiana Tech. Rice was ranked last week, but were dropped into the also receiving votes category with the Thundering Herd.
Mississippi State grabbed the No. 1 post for the first time in ’16 after Florida dominated that poll spot for the 12 times in the first 14 weeks.
