Marshall football struggling with 'sudden-change'

Marshall coach Doc Holliday has watched his defense surrender five touchdowns and one field goal in seven sudden change situations this season. That stands to be a point of emphasis as the Herd prepares to host Florida Atlantic Saturday.

HUNTINGTON — Your defense has done its job, and members of that unit exuberantly run off the field. It’s fourth down, and as coaches like to say, they got off the field.

Then something goes wrong and suddenly that defense has to return.

Uh, oh.

That was as much a factor as any in Marshall’s 38-21 loss last week at North Texas, and will be a point of emphasis for the bout Saturday against Florida Atlantic (1-5, 0-1 Conference USA).
