Marshall football notebook: Special-teams ace Cody Carter proud of captaincy

HUNTINGTON — He may be undersized and unsung, but definitely not unused or unappreciated.

Especially not unappreciated. This week, special-teams standout Cody Carter won an honor that Marshall coaches don’t randomly dole out — being named one of the weekly captains.

It’s another milestone the 5-foot-10, 176-pound fifth-year senior from Barboursville has earned. It goes right up there working his way onto the field for the Thundering Herd, and eventually earning a scholarship.

MU coaches name two offensive players and two on defense to be the captains for the next game. MU coach Doc Holliday announced that Carter would be a fifth captain, representing the special teams.
