Marshall football notebook: Most Herd players not used to struggles

HUNTINGTON — For most of Marshall’s football team, being sub-.500 is uncharted, unwanted territory.

That’s not the case for tackle Clint Van Horn, the Thundering Herd’s resident graybeard. In the first two of his six years in Huntington, he lived through such adversity.

He was a redshirting freshman in 2011, when the Herd was 4-6 with two games remaining. The Herd won at Memphis 23-22 despite two fumbles returned for touchdowns, then needed overtime to put ECU away 34-27 and capture a bowl berth.
