HUNTINGTON — Playing a home game near Nov. 14 is a solemn matter for the Marshall football team, and players feel an extra responsibility to honor the victims of the 1970 plane crash.

It goes way beyond the fountain ceremony, which takes place Monday.

The usual pregame fan experience was scrapped Saturday, before the Thundering Herd took on Middle Tennessee. An emotional tribute was played on the video board, depicting an athlete in reflection at the monument in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Later, the board flashed each media guide biography of the players on that plane from East Carolina, in alphabetical order.
