As the Thundering Herd football program celebrated its new recruiting class, coach Doc Holliday was quick to credit outstanding crowds at two specific events. Most of the 24 athletes signed Wednesday attended one or both.
First, there was the Purdue game last September. The Herd prevailed over the Boilermakers 41-31 before a packed house of 38,791. That firmed up a number of commitments and planted the seeds for several more.
“I bet 80 percent of those who committed were here at the Purdue game,” Holliday said. “They took their official visit at the Purdue game and what an atmosphere that was.
