Marshall basketball falls to Cincinnati in overtime

CINCINNATI — Troy Caupain hit a short jumper off an offensive rebound with 0.7 seconds left as Cincinnati escaped with a 93-91 overtime win over Marshall at Fifth Third Arena.

It was the third attempt for the Bearcats, who were fortunate to have possession with 27.9 seconds left. That’s when Jarron Cumberland’s errant 3-pointer wedged between the rim and backboard — that goes to the alternate possession, with the arrow pointing to the Bearcats.

On top of that, the shot clock reset (and turned off), giving them the full 27.9 seconds to shoot.

Caupain, co-preseason player of the year in the American Athletic Conference, missed a short jumper and the Bearcats missed a tip-in attempt.
