HUNTINGTON — Marshall men’s basketball senior guard Austin Loop was named to the 2016 Academic All-District II team, the College Sports Information Directors of America [CoSIDA] announced Thursday. The teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.
This is Loop’s first time being honored and he is the first Herd player to earn CoSIDA academic recognition in 15 years. Marshall Hall of Fame member J.R. VanHoose (1998-2002) was named a CoSIDA Academic All-American back in 2002, when Marshall was a member of the Mid-American Conference and Loop has a chance to join VanHoose and Mike D’Antoni (1970-73, and brother of Marshall head coach Danny D’Antoni) as Marshall’s only CoSIDA All-Americans.
