HUNTINGTON — James Kelly scored 27 points and pulled down 23 rebounds as Marshall rolled by Charlotte 87-72 Thursday night at Cam Henderson Center.
The Thundering Herd (14-12 overall, 10-3 Conference USA) reversed its 103-95 loss to the 49ers last month, and won its 10th league game for the first time since it finished 11-5 in 2009-10. The Herd also clinched its first winning conference season since 2011-12.
Kelly set his career high in rebounds and recorded the Herd’s first 20-board game since Tyler Wilkerson did it in November 2009, gathering 20 against North Carolina A&T.
He gained some personal revenge against the 49ers’ Joseph Uchebo, who hurt the Herd with 24 points and 21 boards at Charlotte.
