HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Southern Mississippi scrambled Marshall’s starting rotation, striking for three runs in the first inning and five in the third to cruise to a 9-3 victory Thursday night at the Conference USA baseball tournament.
Jake Sandlin hit the mightiest blow, a grand slam in the third innings. He knocked the ball out of Pete Taylor Park with two out and a full count, making it 8-2.
Most notably, Sandlin did that against JD Hammer, brought in for Parker Danciu (5-4) with the score 4-2. Hammer is the Herd’s third starter, signaling that No. 4 starter Joshua Shapiro may start in an elimination game Friday.
