HUNTINGTON — Marshall athletics’ Big Green Scholarship Foundation held its second HERDSPYs event, honoring student-athletes and recognizing some of the greatest moments in Thundering Herd history as voted by Thundering Herd fans via HerdZone.com.
Winning the top moment of the year was men’s basketball’s 108-106 double buzzer beater overtime victory over Southern Miss on Senior Day. Senior transfer from Miami-Fla. James Kelly sent the game to overtime with a layup at the end of regulation and junior Austin Loop drilled the game-winner off the left wing to send the Henderson Center into a frenzy.
The Big Green also honored the 1996 Marshall football team, which won the Southern Conference Championship in the regular season and the NCAA National Championship in the I-AA post-season, winning each game by 14 points or more.
