NORFOLK, Va. — When Marshall passed for only 59 yards against Louisville in September, it had two excuses.
First, it was facing Louisville, a national contender. Second, Chase Litton was out, forcing true freshman Garet Morrell to make an ill-timed first start.
There were no such excuses Saturday in Marshall’s 38-14 loss to Old Dominion. Litton played all but the Thundering Herd’s final possession, and went a seemingly respectable 17 of 26.
But he threw for a measly, career-low 87 yards, 3.3 per attempt. He eked out an unimpressive 106.2 NCAA passer rating because of his one touchdown throw and no interceptions.
