James Kelly overcame first-half foul trouble to score 32 points as Marshall remained unbeaten in Conference USA play Saturday night by beating Rice 94-90.
Stevie Browning had a career-high 20 points as the Thundering Herd survived a late Owls rally. Marshall’s 92-84 lead melted to 92-90, but Kelly beat the press to dunk at the other end and put the game away.
Marshall improves to 9-9 overall, 5-0 in the league, and remains tied with Alabama-Birmingham for the league lead. Marcus Evans led Rice (6-12, 1-4) with 29 points.
