HATTIESBURG, Miss. — In a wild lid lifter to the Conference USA Baseball Championship, presented by Buffalo Wild Wings, No. 24-ranked Rice held off No. 27-ranked Louisiana Tech, 13-12, in the 10 a.m. (EDT) opening game at Pete Taylor Park at Southern Miss.
Rice responded to two runs by Tech in the top of the second with a 9-run bottom of the second, but both teams were hardly done. Tech scored two in the third to make the score 9-4, Rice went up 10-4 in the fourth, LA Tech cut it to 10-5 in the fifth, then 10-8 in the sixth before both teams went scoreless in the seventh.
