HUNTINGTON – The Thundering Herd had not won at Akron since 2002, when Ronald Blackshear hit his first 11 threes, 14 in all, and scored 44 points. When Marshall met this year’s Zips team in the James A. Rhodes Arena (known to Zip fans as “The JAR”), Akron had won 22-straight at home and the Herd had neither key big inside as Terrence Thompson missed his fifth-straight with an abdominal injury and senior Ryan Taylor dressed but did not play with a noticeable limp going back to Marshall’s last home win over Toledo.
When Adjin Penava fouled out with 17 minutes played, and Jon Elmore had his worse shooting night of the season, you can guess the outcome as Akron beat Marshall for the seventh-straight time under Coach Keith Dambrot, 99-88, in a fun game for the fans in blue and kelly green at the JAR.
