A slightly weird chapter in Marquette men’s basketball recruiting came to a close last weekend as Mark “Rocket” Watts made his verbal commitment to Michigan State.
The 6’1” Watts is ranked #32 in the country in the Class of 2019 by 247 Sports’ Composite system, and while he hails from Michigan, he’s currently attending Spire Institute in Ohio and is thus the best prospect in the Buckeye State.
Marquette was a prominent part of Watts’ recruitment, but after mid-July, I’m not entirely sure how involved the Golden Eagles were. See, what had happened was Watts announced a list of eight schools on July 15th, and while MU head coach Steve Wojciechowski had visited Watts in early April, the Golden Eagles were not on his list.
