Men’s lacrosse loses to Providence, has more challenging path to BIG EAST Tournament

Marquette men’s lacrosse couldn’t handle the pressure of a crucial conference game, suffering a 15-8 loss to the Providence Friars Saturday afternoon.

The Friars used their variety of offensive weapons in the first quarter, putting up five goals from five different players.

Marquette scored a few goals in the second and third quarters, but the Golden Eagles couldn’t keep up with Providence freshman Matt Grillo. The underclassman had a career-high five goals.

Providence senior Brendan Kearns had a hat trick. Sophomore Evan McGreen, junior Tim Hinrichs and junior Ryan Nawrocki each tallied two goals.

For the Golden Eagles, senior John Wagner put up two goals, including his 100th career goal.
