GREENVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA — Men’s basketball’s roller coaster season ended with one final steep descent.
Despite the Golden Eagles and South Carolina playing a back-and-forth grudge match for a majority of the game, the Gamecocks ended the game on a 20-6 run to create a lopsided 93-73 final.
Marquette’s struggles stemmed from two major pitfalls, turnovers and interior defense. The Golden Eagles gave away the ball 18 times, and Markus Howard alone did on six occasions. South Carolina scored 16 fast break points and 25 from turnovers.
“Taking care of the ball has got to be one of the things we do best against a team the caliber of South Carolina,” head coach Steve Wojciechowski said.
