Marquette Women’s Soccer Drops Season Opener To Nebraska, 2-1

Senior midfielder Liz Bartels clawed a goal back before halftime, but Marquette couldn’t equalize on Friday night and opened up the 2016 season with a 2-1 loss on the road against Nebraska.

Bartels’ goal came in the 32nd minute, with an assist from Carrie Madden and geometry. Madden played the ball in to Bartels from the left side, and the Nebraska native struck her shot to the far post. It was just wide enough to avoid the reach of Husker keeper Aubrei Corder, but not wide enough to miss the post itself. It was far enough in that the ricochet off the post sent the ball into the net for the first goal of the season for both Bartels and the team overall.
