Henry Ellenson named Big East freshman of the year

Heading into the Big East tournament, Marquette forward Henry Ellenson has put together arguably the best freshman season in program history. On Wednesday afternoon, he became just the second Golden Eagles player to earn Big East freshman of the year, an award that came by unanimous vote from the league's head coaches.

Ellenson, who averaged 16.8 points and led the conference with 9.8 rebounds per game while recording 17 double-doubles, joined 2005-'06 freshman of the year Dominic James as Marquette's only winners of the award since joining the Big East. Entering the postseason, Ellenson ranks first or tied for first among Marquette freshmen in eight stat categories, including points (520), rebounds (304), scoring average, rebounding average, field goals made (tied, 182), field goals attempted (410), free throws made (129) and free throws attempted (175).
