Notre Dame attackman Matt Kavanagh dashed Marquette's upset hopes as he scored the winning goal in an 8-7 overtime victory in South Bend, Ind.
The No. 17 Golden Eagles men's lacrosse team (8-2, 3-0 Big East) clawed back from deficits of 5-2 and 7-5 to force overtime against the No. 1 Fighting Irish (9-1, 3-0 ACC).
However, Kavanagh scored his fourth goal of the game and 14th of the season to secure the victory.
Six Golden Eagles scored during the game, including Kyran Clarke, who had two goals.
The Golden Eagles' next game is Saturday against Big East opponent Providence at Marquette's Valley Fields.
