Golden Eagles play giant-killer

The young Marquette University women's basketball team is coming of age.

MU faced a Big East heavyweight Friday night and didn't flinch. The Golden Eagles stood toe-to-toe with St. John's and emerged with a 67-64 victory at the Al McGuire Center.

The Golden Eagles (10-11, 5-5) have won four-straight games. St. John's (16-5, 7-3) entered the game just a half game out of first place in the Big East race.

Golden Eagles freshman Natisha Hiedeman delivered in the clutch. She scored on a layup with 38 seconds left to give MU a 65-64 lead.

Fellow freshman Allazia Blockton, who led MU with 15 points, then drained two free throws with four seconds left to make it 67-64.
