BREAKING: BIG EAST cancels men’s basketball tournament

NEW YORK CITY — With No. 9-seeded St. John’s beating No. 1 Creighton 30-27 at halftime, the conference decided to cancel the BIG EAST Tournament due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Marquette’s game against Seton Hall was originally slated for 9:30 p.m. Thursday, but with the COVID-19 decision, senior guards Markus Howard and Myles Powell will not be able to duel for the 11th time.

“So we have, here in the 2020 Big East Tournament, we have two completed games. We have half a game. And that’s all we’re going to have in 2020,” BIG EAST Commissioner Val Ackerman said in a press conference Thursday.
