Why Greenwood was missing at Goodison Park

Our highly-rated Academy graduate was a surprise omission from the group that was announced an hour ahead of kick-off at Goodison Park, where the Reds came from behind to win 3-1.

Speaking to the broadcaster BT Sport after the final whistle on Merseyside - where Bruno Fernandes (two) and Edinson Cavani scored - Solskjaer admitted that Greenwood was struggling with illness.

“He wasn’t feeling well last night,”

the manager reported.

“He looked well in training, he looked OK. But then he reported he was not well and can’t travel.”

In a separate interview with club media, Solskjaer stated United’s victory had come at a cost, with Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford all requiring treatment on injuries.
