Wayne Rooney in the frame to become Birmingham manager - with John Eustace being eyed by Premier League sides - as the Man United legend departs DC United

Wayne Rooney is firmly in the frame to become the new manager of Birmingham with doubts over the long-term future of current boss John Eustace.

The former England captain has now left his role as manager of Major League Soccer club DC United and retains strong connections in the English game. Mail Sport reported in September that he would be high on the list of Birmingham – who are co-owned by NFL great Tom Brady – should Eustace ever depart.

He had a spell with crisis-torn Derby from 2020-21 and earned credit for the way he led the club, who had a spell in administration, both on and off the field.
