Overnight downpours and morning thunderstorms left the pitch at the Optus Stadium waterlogged earlier in the day, but the weather improved in the afternoon and ground staff worked hard to remove surface water.
Following a pitch inspection at 15:00, the referee declared the pitch to be playable.
