The young Reds were then due to host Everton on Saturday but that fixture at The Cliff has now been called off.
Thursday's game will be the Under-23s' second visit to Yorkshire in the space of six days, following last weekend's entertaining 3-3 draw away to Huddersfield Town.
Doncaster were also in action that day, playing their first competitive fixture of the 2020/21 season.
