Cristiano Ronaldo recovered quickly from his sacking by Manchester United as he scored Portugal's first goal at the World Cup.

Ronaldo, 37, was pictured fighting back tears during the Portuguese national anthem in his first game since having his contract terminated by the Red Devils.
But the confidently dispatched penalty, followed by his trademark 'siuuuu' celebration, was highly controversial.
Ronaldo burst into the box and dived theatrically to the ground under minimal contact from Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu, but the referee Ismail Elfath awarded a spot-kick and VAR surprisingly did not overturn his decision.
