The Reds battled hard in the second half and were unlucky not to have a goal from a Bruno Fernandes free-kick that struck the bar, before Justin Kluivert netted a third.
Despite Fernandes then scoring from the penalty spot, after a foul on Mason Greenwood, and Paul Pogba claiming a goal from a corner to set up grandstand finish, United were ultimately unable to turn the tide.
