Steven Gerrard says he does not want to sign Mason Greenwood and dismisses rumours linking the forward to his Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq as 'fake news'

Steven Gerrard has publicly claimed he does not want to sign Mason Greenwood for Saudi Arabia Pro League side Al Ettifaq.

The Liverpool legend took to social media yesterday to say that any move by his new club for Greenwood was ‘fake news’.

The 21-year-old forward can leave Old Trafford following the club’s internal investigation into a number of serious criminal allegations that have since been dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service.

Saudi Arabia have spent the summer transfer window spending mammoth amounts of money on signing some of football’s most high-profile players, including reigning Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema and Sadio Mane, as well as Gerrard’s former Liverpool team-mate Jordan Henderson.
