Sir Bobby Charlton's iconic 1966 white World Cup semi-final kit - which he scored two goals in - is sold for £59,000 at auction, just a day after his funeral in Manchester

Sir Bobby Charlton's England shirt from the 1966 World Cup semi-final has been bought for £59,000 at an auction.

The jersey went on sale at 9.30am this morning and was snapped up for a hammer price of £45,000, but the buyer's premium took it up to £59,040, Hansons Auctioneers told MailOnline.

Charlton scored two goals in front of 94,000 fans at Wembley against Portugal to seal England's passage to the World Cup final with a 2-1 win in the iconic kit.

England won the tournament and their only World Cup to date with a 4-2 win over West Germany in the final.
