Sir Alex Ferguson thought the Class of '92 were 'off their heads' when he heard of plans to take over Salford City

Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted he thought the Class of '92 were 'off their heads' when he first heard of their plan to take over Salford City and attempt to guide them to the Football League.

The legendary Manchester United boss was at Salford's Moor Lane ground on Thursday to officially unveil their renovated ground, with the club now two promotions away from League football.

Ferguson took the microphone to praise the job his former players have done at the non-league club, but also admitted he was surprised to hear of Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt, Gary and Phil Neville's plans.
