Ruben Amorim's views on using Man United's academy have been seen as hollow words by many fans - but with injuries and AFCON imminent, now is the time for him to call upon the kids

When it comes to Manchester United's academy, Ruben Amorim often talks a good game.

Away at Tottenham Hotspur before the international break, having drafted in 18-year-old Jack Fletcher, Amorim spoke about United showing that 'our academy is our future'. Amorim made five substitutions that day. Fletcher was not one of them.

Back in March, when he turned to Ayden Heaven and Chido Obi for an FA Cup tie against Fulham, Amorim again spoke of the academy's importance and the understanding of tradition.

'It's our tradition to put players in to play, especially in this moment,' he said at the time.
