Penarol chief reveals Man United didn't pay Facundo Pellistri's £10m release clause because of 'club policy' but sent them the money directly with Old Trafford club rejecting return on loan because they want 18-year-old in the first-team squad now

Penarol bosses have revealed details of Manchester United's £10million signing of Uruguayan wonderkid Facundo Pellistri with the Old Trafford club apparently not paying his release clause.

The 18-year-old winger completed his move to United before the transfer deadline on Monday and is expected to go straight into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first-team squad this season.

But according to Penarol secretary Evaristo Gonzalez, United informed the Uruguayan club it went against club policy to pay Pellistri's release clause and instead sent the money directly.
