Paul Scholes loses his first game in temporary charge of Salford City as Class of 92's League Two side are beaten at Port Vale

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has lost his first game as caretaker manager of Salford City.

Scholes' side had the chance to take the lead from the spot after Ian Henderson had been fouled by Port Vale defender Leon Legge, but Scott Brown had his penalty saved and Henderson side footed the rebound over the bar.

The Valiants punished Salford with a late strike from winger Cristian Montano which proved to be the winner.

The 45-year-old former Oldham manager said: 'It was difficult to take, we played some really good football at times, we missed the penalty and the rebound and a good chance towards the end as well, I wasn't too displeased with the team, I thought they tried to play the way we wanted to play.
