'Overweight and slow' Wayne Rooney facing up to defining season at Manchester United, says Paul Parker

Wayne Rooney is 'overweight and slow' and does not deserve his place in Manchester United's team.

That is the view of Paul Parker, who won two Premier League titles with United following a £2million move from QPR in 1991.

Rooney scored as his side opened their Premier League campaign with a 3-1 win at Bournemouth on Sunday, but Parker says the England striker is in poor physical shape and should not be holding down a starting spot on the strength of his reputation.
