The 19-year-old had received a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s provisional England squad for the European Championship but unfortunately had to withdraw due to injury.
Having subsequently taken some time to recover, Mason was then able to return to United for a full pre-season ahead of the 2021/22 campaign, which included starts and valuable minutes of preparation on the pitch for him in all four of our summer outings.
That preparation obviously paid dividends too, as shown in the Reds’ season opener last weekend, as the forward put on an impressive display leading the line against Leeds United and netted United’s decisive second goal in the match with a perfectly executed finish.
