New Premier League spending cap could see PSG and Real Madrid blow rivals out of the water... with the European heavyweights already splashing more than the £402m limit

Premier League clubs are reportedly considering the introduction of a spending cap linked to the bottom side’s television income.

The Times reported that clubs are weighing up a proposal which would anchor spending on player wages to the amount the bottom team are paid in television revenue.

The proposal is viewed as an attempt to ensure competitive balance in the top flight, while controlling costs around wages, the biggest expenditure of Premier League clubs.

It is claimed the move would also serve as a ‘safety net’ to prevent a widening financial gulf between the Premier League’s top sides and the rest of the division.
