Neville opens up on Rooney apologising to the Man United squad... after spat with Sir Alex Ferguson

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has recalled the time he thought Wayne Rooney's time at the club was over, seven years before he actually left.

Back in 2010, Rooney was in contract negotiations with the club and wanted certain assurances surrounding the clubs future. The striker wanted to ensure that the club could match his own ambitions as he was unsure of the direction under the Glazer's ownership. He also believed that United could no longer attract big name players.

However, his manager Sir Alex Ferguson was less than pleased by Rooney's view during negotiations and called the then 24-year-old out for 'letting him down' and 'showing the club no respect.
