Despite taking the lead through Fred's maiden goal, the Reds had to settle for a point due to Joao Moutinho's second-half equaliser. The visitors performed well to continue their impressive start to life back in the top flight and it was a disappointing result, particularly with early pacesetters Liverpool and Manchester City both winning comfortably (against Southampton and Cardiff City respectively).

Jose Mourinho believed Wolves deserved the draw because of the intensity and application they showed at Old Trafford. He felt his players did not match this attitude, even though this is always what is required.
