Memphis Depay backed by Jordi Cruyff over faltering Manchester United career

Manchester United flop Memphis Depay is not a bad player but may have found himself playing for the wrong club at the wrong time, according to former Holland international Jordi Cruyff.

The Dutch winger has failed to launch after arriving from PSV Eindhoven in a £25million deal 18 months ago. Having sealed the Eredivisie Golden Boot in the previous campaign, Depay was rightly considered one of the world's biggest talents.

He soon fell down the pecking order under Louis van Gaal and the situation only appeared to worsen when Jose Mourinho took charge in the summer.

But Cruyff does not think Depay has lost the ability he showed at PSV and compared his situation to the one Zlatan Ibrahimovic found himself in at Barcelona, where he failed to see eye-to-eye with Pep Guardiola before leaving for AC Milan.
